Meet the Artist: Jill Flynne

I met Jill several year's ago when we were both members of the South Shore Women's Business Network. The companionship, protection, and guidance they provide for their owners empower them with more confidence and independence than they would have on their own.<br /><br />Dogs, cats, horses, and other assistance animals must meet stringent requirements before they can be certified for therapy and companion work. The necessary training makes them very costly, and many needy families cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars for an animal. Programs that train and place both domestic animals and wildlife for therapy are desperate for funding. Some shelter animals are candidates for assistance work, which can give purpose to the life of an animal that might otherwise not find a home. It is a win-win situation – if there is sufficient funding to create these winners.<br />Helping people and animals in your community gives you the chance to see your donation at work. The Duke is now in need of funds (isn't everyone?) and has offered <span style="font-style: italic;">Diana and Actaeon</span> for a price of £50M - which is a bargain as the estimated value is £145M. The trick is, though, that the Galleries has to <a href="http://www.nationalgalleries.org/aboutus/project/1:167/5903">come up with the cash</a> by today - December 31st. Jason’s life-like oil paintings are intriguingly cropped – leaving the viewer to fill in the gaps and become more intimate with the subject. I asked Jason the non-artsy question of – “what paintings would you hang in a kitchen?” Jason offered his painting called “Win, Place, Show.” He mused that the subject is looking out a window or at some far away object. Just as you would do when you are preparing food. My own kitchen has a scene of a flower on a windowsill with a farm in the backdrop. Interestingly – looking out of the window at something soothing that’s far away. What you select is up to your taste and should match the design and size of the room. Designers and art consultants can really help you in your selection – but ultimately, the choice should be personal. Is the work something you’d like to see everyday? Does the piece make you feel good? And don’t be afraid to move them around. I have an embarrassing number of prints in my basement that I’ve grown tired of. Sometimes I re-hang them in a different place that makes me fall in love all over again.
